How do you know if you suffer from bruxism?

Symptoms include:

  • Pain just below the jawline. Headaches, jaw, neck & face pain.
  • Dull ache in the temples
  • Poor sleep, teeth grinding
  • Accidental cheek chewing
  • Signs of bruxism include-
  • Damaged or fractured teeth
  • Tense and noticeable jaw muscles (masseters)
  • A distinctive and squared jawline

Facts on Bruxism:

  • This condition is linked to stress and sleep patterns.
  • Patients may grind their teeth during sleep.
  • Frequent complaints include headaches, jaw pain, and neck discomfort.
  • Prominent masseter and temple muscles are noticeable indications.
  • Dental examinations may reveal worn or cracked teeth.
  • Treatment options include muscle-relaxing injections.
  • Dental splints can be a valuable addition to injection therapy.

The Benefits:

  • Relaxation of the masseter muscles
  • Refined facial contour
  • Reduction of tension headaches and teeth grinding
  • Improved comfort and functionality
  • Prevention of dental damage
  • Bruxism is a commonly occurring condition with both medical and aesthetic implications. Symptoms involve frequent headaches and teeth grinding, while noticeable signs include prominent masseter muscles resulting in a strong, broad jawline. Additionally, teeth grinding can also lead to cracks and damage on tooth surfaces.
  • During your consultation, your clinical cosmetic medical provider will evaluate your concerns, commence a medical history and a thorough examination. Symptoms may involve headaches and jaw pain and observable signs may include well-defined masseter muscles, and in severe cases, the temporalis muscles.
  • Following the assessment, we discuss with you the most fitting treatment choice, considering your treatment preferences and priorities.
  • During the treatment, a series of anti-wrinkle injections will be applied into the superficial head of the muscle. Injections can bring about a noticeable improvement in the signs and symptoms of bruxism. They function by relaxing the masseter muscles, which are the prominent muscles near the rear of the cheeks responsible for jaw movement. These injections effectively ease the tension in this muscle, preventing involuntary teeth grinding and clenching.
  • This will gradually alleviate tension in the jaw, helping to prevent further damage to the teeth. You will also notice a decrease in the frequency of headaches.
  • Muscle relaxants typically have a duration of 3-6 months and start to take effect within 7 to 10 days. While injections do not provide a permanent solution for bruxism, they can offer significant relief for several months. Not only will it contribute to a relaxed jawline, reducing teeth grinding and tension headaches, but it will also diminish the muscle bulge, enhancing your overall facial aesthetics.

During Treatment

  • Treatments can take 15-30 minutes with minimal discomfort.

After Treatment

  • Muscle relaxant injections have minimal to no downtime for recovery. Most clients return to normal activity immediately.
  • While it’s unlikely you will experience side effects, you may experience redness or bruising at the injection point, pain, firmness, swelling, itching, lumps, bumps, or discolouration.
  • In most cases, these side effects are temporary and will resolve within a week. If you experience any side effects, please contact us, so our medical team can follow up to ensure maximum safety and satisfaction.
