What is the science behind thread lifts?
- The level of insertion is in the mid to lower dermis & sub dermally in the fat layer (forehead threads are realistically in the fat-muscle layers).
Threads cause a tissue reaction that:
- Stimulates collagen production. This is called fibrosis.
- Cause some breakdown of the adipose tissue, in turn decreasing tissue bulk.
- Causes some mild contraction of the fibro septal network, in turn causing contraction of the fat layer (in theory)
- Increases the vasculature of the dermis & fat, which in theory can add to fibrosis and increased collagen and elastin.

HOW IT WORKS:
- PDO Mono Threads use bio-dissolvable polydioxanone (PDO) threads. They are 100% dissolvable and TGA approved, used in a variety of surgical procedures worldwide, making them an extremely safe option for use in cosmetic treatments.
- PDO Mono Threads work by stimulating the growth of collagen and elastin in desired areas across the face and neck, encouraging collagen production and renewal. This leaves your skin looking rejuvenated long after the threads have dissolved as your skin is firmer and more elastic due to increased collagen production.
- Before any cosmetic injectable treatment, a complimentary consultation with our doctors or registered cosmetic nurses is necessary. During your consultation, we will determine the most suitable treatment option and evaluate the number of threads to achieve your desired results.
- Our expert doctors and registered nurses perform PDO Mono threads using a non-incision method, gently inserting the threads beneath the skin via small needles, anchoring into the tissue to instantly lift and tighten the skin working beneath the surface to pull skin taut and encouraging fibroblast activation.
- Your skin will begin producing new collagen and elastin around the thread, tightening, and firming the skin.
- PDO Mono Thread treatments are usually performed in under an hour and gradually be seen over the next few weeks. You can see visible results in just a single treatment with PDO Mono Threads.
- At approximately 3 months, the threads begin to dissolve. The collagen stimulation continues for up to 12 months after treatment, providing you with long-lasting effects. Top up treatments are recommended every 6-12 months to achieve and maintain optimal results.
- The benefits are after the threads dissolve, your skin is not likely to resume to its prior sagging, instead your skin will be more firmer, with greater elasticity as the threads have stimulated collagen production making the skin less prone to sagging or wrinkles.
During Treatment
- Generally, treatments can take around 30 – 60 minutes with minimal discomfort.
- To ensure your comfort, the treated area is numbed during the procedure. The quantity of injections administered will be based on the amount of product needed and the desired outcomes
After Treatment
- Following treatment, you may experience mild to moderate redness, swelling and bruising, which will typically take 7-14 days to resolve. You can apply arnica gel or ointment to help clear bruising immediately after procedure, use as needed
- A stinging or pulling pain or discomfort or scratchy sensation is normal and will generally subside by 2- 8 weeks
- You may experience delayed healing and tenderness which will subside between 2-8 weeks or maybe longer
- If you experience prolonged redness, swelling, infection or any other disturbance to the treated skin contact RENU Hair and Skin Clinic.
- Applying a cold compress and taking paracetamol can help with comfort.
2-4 Weeks Prior to Treatment
- Avoid the sun and tanning a minimum of 2 weeks prior. Protect your skin with sunscreen SPF 50
- Cosmetic injectable treatments including anti-wrinkle treatments (2 weeks prior) & dermal fillers (4 weeks prior)
- Avoid use of skincare products containing active ingredients such as vitamin A, retinol, or glycolic acid
- Avoid supplements that increase bruising and bleeding such as; Green Tea, Omegas, Primrose Oil, Echinacea, Vitamin E, and multi-vitamins
- Avoid use of nurofen, aspirin and other anti-inflammatories/ anticoagulation medications
7 Days Prior
Avoid chemical peels and micro-needling for 7 days prior to treatment on the same area
24 Hours before your appointment
- Avoid alcohol
- Avoid excessive sun exposure
- Refrain from taking over-the-counter medications or multivitamins that may cause blood thinning
- Continue to take any prescribed blood-thinning medications as directed by your GP
- On the day of your appointment, make sure to have a meal and stay well hydrated by increasing your water intake.
Consultation
- All cosmetic injectable treatments require a complimentary consultation with one of our doctors or registered nurses.
- Please advise your clinical cosmetic provider if you are taking any blood-thinning medications (such as aspirin, warfarin or clopidogrel etc.) regardless of whether you’re expecting to have a treatment.
- During consultation, an accurate guide to pre- and post-care recovery is discussed prior to the treatment and a full post-care guide will be provided at your appointment.
During consultation, your treating medical professional will assess your medical history and skin for suitability for treatment.
Lip Filler Injections are not suitable for:
- people with a known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients
- pregnant or breastfeeding mums
- Under 18 years old
Immediately post treatment
- Avoid direct pressure on your face, recommend to sleep elevated on your back to help reduce swelling for 2-3 days
- The area may be sensitive to touch; avoid touching the area for at least 24 hours after the treatment to allow the injection sites to heal.
- Keep the dressing tape and area of insertion dry for at least 24-48 hours, or as recommended
- Place a cold compact on the area for 5-10 minutes, every hour, to reduce pain and swelling
- Do not massage areas for the first month
- Until swelling/ nursing has resolved, avoid use of AHA or Vitamin A products, strongly scented lotions and soaps, shaving, waxing or plucking hair, exfoliation
- Paracetamol can be taken if required
- The treated area can be washed gently after 4 – 5 hours
24 Hours
- Can continue to use cold compresses on and off to further reduce swelling, if required
- Avoid using excessive make up for 3 days post procedure
48 Hours
Avoid alcohol, and heat induced activities that cause sweating, including:
- Steam rooms & saunas
- Swimming pools
- Vigorous exercise
2 – 4 Weeks
- Schedule a review appointment with your clinical cosmetic medical provider
- Allow 2 weeks after PDO Mono Threads to do laser, skin or other cosmetic injectable treatments on the same area treated
- Allow 4 weeks after PDO Mono Treads for Dermal Filler Treatments
- Allow 4-6 weeks post PDO Mono Threads to undergo dental procedures

When will I see results?
Whilst effects may be observed immediately, maximum tension from the PDO Mono Threads will be visible from around 8-12 weeks post treatment. As the body continues to remodel new collagen and tissue support around the threads, ongoing outcomes can be obtainable for up to 12-months.
How long does a PDO Mono Thread Treatment take?
PDO Mono Thread Treatments take between 30-60 minutes and the area is numbed for your comfort. The number of injections will depend on the amount of product and desired results.
How many PDO Mono Thread treatments will I need?
As everyone’s skin is unique, there is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ for the number of threads required. There are several factors that will determine how many threads will be used, such as your current skin health, the area being treated, and desired results. During your complimentary consultation, your registered nurse will take the time to understand your individual goals and create a treatment plan to suit your needs.
Is there any downtime?
There isn’t any downtime from a standalone PDO Mono Thread treatment. After treatment you may experience some swelling and/or bruising that will disappear over the next 3-7 days. We recommend LED Rejuvenate treatments to assist your body’s natural healing process.
How long does it take to heal from threads?
1-7 days, but the average patient will heal up within 24 hours, albeit bruising if lots of threads are performed. Expect redness & swelling for the first 12 to 36 hours. Refrain from alcohol & heavy exercise for 24 hours after threads.
